He did it!
Nick ran the Portland Marathon. I am so proud of him.

We went downtown together on Friday night to pick up his race information and as we pulled into the parking garage, I said, "And so it begins." He loved it and I am so happy he wanted me to share in his achievement of this huge goal.

We got up on race day around 5:30 and were on the streets, looking for Nick's starting group by 6:40. It was still dark and chilly and yet the energy of the runners and walkers was working to keep spirits up and adrenaline rushing.

After I watching Nick jog his way to the starting line and the waves of runners bounce up and down the street I made my way to the volunteer tent a few blocks away. I took my place at the t-shirt pick-up tables and chatted it up with a woman my age while waiting for the first finishers to show up. I thought of Nick often, hoping he was feeling strong and comfortable as he ran the longest route he has ever run. 26.2 miles!
Nick has finished!

Nick crossed the finish line in 4 hours: 41 minutes: 40 seconds. Awesome. His average mile took 10:45 to run and while he mixed some walking in with his running near the end, he was so happy with his success. His family and friends rallied around him with messages of encouragement and congratulations. He is so loved.
We went out for pastrami after the race and Nick needed a streeetch.
