We are at Salmon Festival for 20 seconds and I hear . . . is it . . .?
Yes! The Twin Peaks theme. I immediately get out my journal and record this awesome moment. Nick was at the stream looking for fish and captured me in action.
Next stop: Astoria.
Goonie house is stop #1. Data happened to be there and make my day.
Astoria Column after lunch on the water. Nick flies his little balsa plane. Once we were at the top we let them really fly and mine went SO far. A 360° view of the Columbia River, the ocean, Saddleback Mountain. We are glad we climbed it so it meant more to us.
Ft. Stevens for an ocean experience. We saw some bunkers and military history but the best thing was watching waves crash and crash. We saw waves form from the side: a wave beginning to curl over on itself is magical.
On our way home we stopped by Youngs River Falls. It is a non-destination, really. Black water, a bit smelly. Nick walked on the rocks only to freak out a little when he realized one of the rocks was actually a dead fish. He stepped on it! Sick. And then we saw more and more dead fish. I saw some bubbles and we waiting to see one live salmon - the only salmon we saw the whole day. Then, we left.
