3/5/12

This Weekend:

Nick and I went to the opening day of Saturday Market, walking through each pathway, glancing at booths, sometimes stopping to really look. We bought nothing but a lemonade and toasted cinnamon almonds. While waiting in line at the almond stand, I felt something on my leg and thought, "It could be a dog..." but when I looked down, saw it was a hand. It made me laugh to see a little hand sticking out from under a tablecloth, waiting to grab my leg. A few seconds later the boy stood up, beaming. "I've always wanted to do that!"

We went to Grandma's for errands and lunch on Sunday. The weather was perfection and our energy was high, ready to have a good time. Grandma and Nick exited to the store while I read the newspaper and watched lazy tv, eating Lays. Salt, please! When they came back with KFC and groceries Grandma said, "I drove!" And she did. The whole way there and back. I trimmed her finger and toe nails and she said, "I drove!"

We left just in time for me to be 10 minutes late to a book club. We discussed Bossypants and I said a few things even though it was my first time and not exactly what I expected. Loud. After the table separated into two talking groups, I relaxed and thought, "These women are smart and kind and I will come back." On my walk home, I called Nick and strange enough he was out walking, on his way to the stadium to get a feel for a live soccer game - from outside the gates. We walked together in the perfect dusk night and upon reaching the stadium, could hear singing and cheering. Exhilarating!

While standing outside the gates for a few minutes, a man walked by, turned back and said, "Do you want a free ticket?" Nick took it. We got in. . . with some help from the security woman and ticket lady. The truth does not always help get cookies into a sports event (fake "medical conditions" do - her words, not mine). It did help Nick get a second free ticket, though. Sweet!
Walking home, we tried one restaurant, walked back out, tried another one and stayed. It is really nice to be out of the house all day sometimes.
