Good telephone manners are determined chiefly by a desire to be
polite and to obtain the most efficient service.
These are helpful cautions to keep in mind:
1) When you answer a call, use a greeting like one of the following:
"This is (your name) speaking."
"This is (the number of your telephone)."
2) Be brief. Do not carry on long, purposeless conversations over the telephone.
3) When you are making a call, state your own name as soon as your call has been answered.
Do not think that the person to whom you are talking will recognize your voice.
4) Do not play the guessing game on the telephone.
5) Speak clearly and distinctly in order that you may be easily understood.
6) Use a pleasing tone of voice.
Good. Call me.
I call Nick at work when I am bored, but I keep it short.
"Hi Nick!"
"I have someone at my desk."
"Okay, I'm so busy too, see you tonight."
